In September, Project Independence Leader Virginia Phillips held two meetings: an introduction to Project Independence which introduced adults living with disabilities, their parents and service providers to the Co-op; and a Details Meeting to share how the Plano/North Richardson Co-op is operating. The discussions at both meetings reinforced the need for parents to come together to make transition into living away from the family as easy as possible for these adults.
Each month two events are planned to that future residents get to know each other, and parents can discuss issues related to independent living.
In September, Project Independence families attended the Plano Balloon Festival together. Also, Harold and Nancy Mayes hosted a taco dinner at their home. Brent Phillips made cupcakes for dessert.
What a great group of families working together to launch their children into apartment living.
CPSH is considering several locations in the DFW area for the next Co-op If you would like to suggest a location and participate in planning the kick-off meeting, please contact CPSH at PI@txcpsh.org
