CPSH 2018 Year In Review

Thank you for your support and participation during 2018 to INCREASE AFFORDABLE HOUSING AND SERVICE CHOICES for adults living with intellectual/developmental disabilities and neurodiversity.

Over the past year, COMMUNITY FOR PERMANENT SUPPORTED HOUSING noticed a significant interest in housing options that give these adults and their families more control over the properties where they live and the services they receive.

The Results Are In!

Results are in

In 2018 you motivated CPSH to advocate on behalf of people with disabilities who want or need affordable housing in North Texas.
  • Over 60 families attended "Secrets of Neighborhood Homes" Workshop.
  • Over 20 property owners contacted CPSH to establish Neighborhood Homes.
  • Over 50 families attended two Open Houses for Neighborhood Homes.
  • UnitedHealthCare and Amerigroup sponsored several Project Independence Workshops and Safety Training Classes - all sellouts!
  • 5 parents and CPSH filed a lawsuit against the Dallas Housing Authority claiming illegal discrimination on the basis of disability regarding the use of Project-Based Vouchers. The case is pending.
  • 2 Neighborhood Homes were established.
  • 18 adults moved into community-based housing of their choice with the services they need.
  • 205 Mainstream Vouchers were awarded to Arlington, Denton, Dallas, McKinney and Tarrant County Housing Authorities. CPSH is a partner with each to assist people with disabilities in applying for the vouchers and identifying properties that accept vouchers.
  • Rent at 30% of monthly income for people with disabilities in all zip codes continued to be a key message as CPSH  worked  with government offices and participated in working group sessions.
  • Medicaid Waiver Services in any community-based home of a person's choosing is the key message as CPSH continued to work with Texas Health and Human Services.
  • $21,000 of donations already received toward our $50,000 Capital Campaign.

The Best Volunteers

In 2018 you came from across the nation to give your time and expertise to address the growing need for affordable housing for people with disabilities. Some of our volunteers gave a few weeks of time, some a few months of time and some became members of the CPSH Board of Directors. Your contributions are priceless. Thank you for volunteering.
