Shep Landy was awarded a Neighborhood Homes Project-based Voucher contract by the Dallas Housing Authortity, which will allow 4 adults with IDD diagnoses and receiving SSI to live in this home. The residents will pay no more that 30% of their income on rent. Shep will receive a subsidy for the difference between the rent that is paid by the tenants and the fair market rent for the home. Tenants will be selected in the near future. The Neighborhood Homes Project is a collaboration between families, DHA and CPSH to show that neighborhood housing for adults living with IDD is desired in North Texas.
You are invited to tour the house and ask questions about independent living:
- Individuals Living with Disabilities: Could you see yourself living in a house like this? Which bedroom do you like? Which friends would you like to live with?
- Parents: Take a look at this home for your family member. Would you consider purchasing a home for adults to rent?
- Transition Specialists: Ask your questions to prepare for meetings with ARD Teams. Encourge your students and their families to attend
- Private and Medicaid Service Providers: Would you consider providing services in this home or one like it?
Come tour this house! Bring a future independent resident. People with IDD are good neighbors and need housing that meets their unique situations, just like everyone else. Shep and CPSH will be available to answer your questions.
