5.3.2024 Meet the Experts- Writing a Letter of Intent (LOI): Plan Today to Protect Your Child Tomorrow

Join Finding Independence to learn about the value of the Letter of Intent (LOI) with Ivy Goldstein, State CSHCN Health Coordinator & Elizabeth Tucker, Executive Director, EveryChild, Inc.

Free registration at https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZEucOyhrDMsH91vEyzFNzAhf6scJQ-BgtFx

Parents, understandably, are overwhelmed thinking of the future when they can no longer provide and/or oversee their child’s daily needs. None of us, though, are protected from unexpected events or the inevitable. Planning helps support a good, meaningful life for our children and avoid crises.

Learn about the Letter of Intent, and an easy way to help others understand your child’s communication. We’ll share what works and what doesn’t and begin preparing for when you are sidelined temporarily or can no longer provide support.

Let’s take the hardest first steps together!

Ivy is the Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN) State Health Coordinator within the Texas Department of State Health Services. She oversees and supports numerous projects focused on improving the quality of life and well-being for children with disabilities and their families. Ivy is mom to two wonderful young adults, including Sophie, who has a diagnosis of Mowat-Wilson Syndrome. Sophie reminds Ivy every day that communities are strengthened when everyone is included and everyone belongs.

Elizabeth is the Executive Director of EveryChild, has 40 years of experience in advocacy, policy and program development to enable children and adults with significant disabilities to move from institutions to the community or be diverted from institutional admission. For the past 19 years, she has worked for EveryChild and has assisted more than 860 children living in institutions or at imminent risk of institutionalization to live with families. Over sixty percent of the children EveryChild has worked with needed a support family or family-based alternative. Elizabeth shares a vision that all children should grow up in families.
