In partnership with UnitedHealthcare, CPSH is pleased to announce the February 24, 2018 Project Independence Workshop. |

The Project Independence Workshop takes families through the 5 steps of how to create independent living in the community with friends. The instructor and parents who have successfully used this approach will share information. Participants will plan how to transition their children to more independence. Families of any age children are welcome to attend. Parent feedback: This is is a 5 hour workshop. Lunch and refreshments are provided.
This is an opportunity to bring families of your child's classmates and friends into a discussion the group living in close proximity with supports. Invite them to RSVP. It's also a good way to meet other families interested in independent living with supports. Earlier this year, CPSH was awarded a local Autism Speaks Grant to develop Home Safety Training for adults with IDD or social challenges who will be transitioning to independent living and their parents. We are delighted that Independent Living Experience is developing the course materials and teaching the first session of this training. Topics for this 12 week session were identified by North Texas parents participating in CPSH community meetings and workshops. They identified safety topics they want their adult children to practice when planning to transition into more independent living. The cost of this training is $100 for parent/guardian and child. This fee is for the full 12 week Home Safety training. The fee will cover expenses for the session that are not covered under the grant. This will be the only safety training available this year. Rosemary is a longtime supporter of CPSH. She recently renovated this home for her daughter to live in. Rosemary would like to meet other families with daughters who might want to live in the home. This is also an opportunity for families to meet other families who are looking for neighborhood homes for your child to live in. There will be a signup sheet (here) for you to fill out. CPSH will be sharing these names with potential home owners. Come tour this house! Bring a future independent resident to show them around and talk with them about independent living. People with IDD are good neighbors and need housing that meets their unique situations, just like everyone else. |
