Neighborhood Homes

A Neighborhood Home is a single-family home or a multi-family home that is purchased as an investment property and rented to people with disabilities and their families in any zip code. In most situations services will be provided in the home by a licensed service provider to meet the needs of the tenants so that they are able to live in the community with the resources they need.

Mainstream Project-Based Vouchers Workshop The HUD housing voucher program is the federal government's major program for assisting very low-income families, elderly, and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. Since housing assistance is provided on behalf of the family or individual, participants are able to find their own housing, including single-family homes, townhouses and apartments. A Mainstream Project-Based Voucher is a housing voucher that stays with the property, so the property owner can assist adults with disabilities and those they live with (called a family) to live affordably. The property can be a single family home or multi-family property. The property owner submits an application to the Dallas Housing Authority. The Dallas Housing Authority reviews the application and awards vouchers. Property owners with properties in Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Kaufman Rockwall, Tarrant Counties can apply for the Mainstream Project-Based Voucher. Creating A Neighborhood Home Workshop Overview of how to rent an existing single-family home or purchasing a home so that people with disabilities can live more independently. The information shared is based on best practices and lessons learned from current Neighborhood Homeowners. We invite the homeowners and their service providers who provide support to the residents in the home to talk about their experiences.
