Introduction to Independence Workshop Provides families step by step resources to assist their loved ones in planning for personalized living situations.Each participant receives the presented material. The three hour workshop shares information about locating suitable housing, assessing the need for in home, and community-based services, identifying service providers, equipping the home with safety devices, budgeting, funding sources such as the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Housing Vouchers and Fair Housing laws. Parents who have creatively identified and implemented ways to transition their children into their own affordable housing options share their experiences with workshop attendees. Home and Community Safety Training Interactive class of 5 or more that includes several teaching methods to adapt to the learning styles of the participants. This training is for individuals with special needs aged 14 and older and one parent/guardian. The parent/guardian will participate in the training. Topics include severe weather safety, first responder interaction and crime reporting, kitchen, community, transportation, financial and internet safety. Steps to Creating a Neighborhood Home for Property Owners Gain knowledge and insight on creating housing options for people with disabilities in North Texas. This workshop includes questions and comments from participants. Multi-family and single-family property owners including families of individuals with disabilities Get It Now $55
Mainstream Project-Based Vouchers Workshop The HUD voucher program is the federal government's major program for assisting very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. Since housing assistance is provided on behalf of the family or individual, participants are able to find their own housing, including single-family homes, townhouses and apartments. A Mainstream Project-Based Voucher is a voucher that stays with the property, so the property owner can assist adults with disabilities and those they live with (called a family) to live affordably. The property can be a signal family home or multi-family property. The property owner submits an application to the Dallas Housing Authority. The Dallas Housing Authority reviews the application and awards vouchers. Property owners with properties in Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Kaufman Rockwall, Tarrant Counties can apply for the Mainstream Project-Based Voucher. Creating A Neighborhood Home Workshop Overview of how to rent an existing single-family home or purchasing a home so that people with disabilities can live more independently.The information shared is based on best practices and lessons learned from current Neighborhood Homeowners. My Home Plan One hour workshop for 5 or more high school students and adults with family members who want to discuss living independently (with support services if needed) when they are no longer in secondary school. This workshop explores where students and adults would like to live and some of the options they might consider when making decisions about their homes. Attendees bring their ideas and questions they have to their families and others who assist them in making decisions. Most of the attendees in this workshop have not had the opportunity to write down their ideas about their future home. The workshop creates a lot of excitement and conversation.
