Dear Friends of Finding Independence by CPSH,

We have news.

The time has come for us to announce publicly the impending closure of Finding Independence by CPSH (FI).

The Board of Directors and our Director of Community Outreach have worked tirelessly to identify resources to continue helping people with intellectual/developmental disabilities find affordable housing. There are over 250,000 people in North Texas with a cognitive disability and at least one independent living challenge.

However, we must now acknowledge that without adequate funding, our advocacy, educational and collaborative initiatives will cease as of June 30, 2024.

For thirteen years Finding Independence has:
  • Helped over 500 people with intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD) and other disabilities find affordable housing.
  • Helped over 3,200 families create personal paths to increase independence for their loved ones.
  • Received local, state, and national recognition for our work.
January 2024 set a record for the number of individuals with (IDD), families and service agencies asking for our help.

What happens to our children and neighbors when the services of Finding Independence are no long available?

We need your help. Here's how:
  • Share our story! Forward this message to individuals and organizations across all social media platforms. (FI Webpage for this letter, FI Facebook, FI Twitter, FI Instagram)
  • Share with us! Any North Texas organization passionate about serving adults with IDD who may have an interest or capacity to include a housing initiative. (focusing on rent at 30% of income and financial independence from family members)
  • Share your fundraising talents! Be our volunteer fundraising hero leading efforts through individual donors, corporate sponsorships, fundraising events, crowdfunding, and foundations.
  • Mid 2024 goal-$40K raised by 6/14/24
  • Late 2024 goal-$80K raised by 12/15/24
Thank you for your time, guidance and support during this challenging time.

Sincerely yours,
Finding Independence by CPSH
